Meet a Local Mom!

By Brooke, Macaroni Mom February 24, 2016

~~~ Meet Brooke~~~
How many children?  What are their ages?
I have one inquisitive, energetic, sweet little boy , Bingham, who will be three in March.
Besides being a super hero (aka mommy), what else do you do?
I work and workout at CrossFit Dover.  I love being a part of such a great community of people who help each other to be “better than yesterday”.  I’m a former middle school language arts teacher, but I traded in my 120 students for a classroom of 1 and am now home with my son.  When I have time to myself, I enjoy watching mindless television and reading books that have more words than pictures.  I also LOVE our church, The Journey, which has helped me to grow in my relationship with Christ and has allowed me to be a better woman, wife, and mother.
Where do you live?
Magnolia, Delaware
Favorite local family activities or events?
I’ve loved Dover Days since I was a little girl and danced with my preschool class.  I still make sure to take Bingham to the parade every year.  Fifer’s Fall Fest also tops the list…what mom doesn’t love a place that can occupy her child all week long?
Greatest successes of motherhood?
Surviving!!  Even though Bingham is still young, I can already see hope for the future in him – he is kind, polite, funny, and smart.  I watch the way he lights up people’s lives and realize that despite all of my imperfections as a mother that I am doing something right.
Greatest challenge in motherhood?  How did you overcome this challenge?
Aside from the typical lack of sleep for the first year and a half, the greatest challenge has been trying to figure out who I am now.  People always tell women how much their lives will change once they have a child, but that is such an understatement in my opinion.  I struggle to figure out where the “old me” is amidst all of the storytimes, diapers, toys, swim classes, laundry…need I go on?  I’m still trying to make time for myself and remember that I can still be Brooke and not just “Bingham’s Mommy”.
Surprise us!
 I can walk on my hands.  I am left-handed.   I have done a triathlon and a half-marathon.  I was born and raised in Dover, Delaware.  I love the Clemson Tigers.  I typically wear flip-flops up until the first snowfall of the winter.
Dunkin’ or Starbucks? Wawa
Beach or mountains? Beach!
City or country? Definitely a country mouse, but I love to visit the city.
Skis or snowboard? Neither
Celebrity crush? I like to consider my husband a local celebrity, but if we are talking about the Hollywood variety,  John Krasinski.
What website do you think we should check out and why?
Check out www.crossfitdover.com and www.crossfit1806.com .  Both of these gyms re amazing and live up to the motto “BE Better. Be Fitter. BELong.”  Many people hear CrossFit and are automatically intimidated.  However, these gyms are filled with welcoming, amazing, supportive coaches and members, who work together to better one another and the local community…AND WE HAVE A KIDS PROGRAM!!
Publisher's Note:
Brooke,
Thanks so much for sharing!  I can definitely relate to your challenges (sleeeeeep, oh sweet, sweet sleep).  As a mother of a tiny one, typically my world revolves around being "Mom" and I have to actively hang on to my sense of self!  I know other mothers can relate to this.
We need to know more about Crossfit's Kid's Program! Let's chat.
Best,
Bethany
